About ReflexologyReflexology is a complementary therapy where specific pressure points on the feet are worked to bring about a feeling of deep relaxation, allowing the body to balance and heal itself. (In this context, complementary means working with and alongside, not instead of conventional medicine). Reflexology is usually done as a ‘whole body treatment’. In other words, although it is undertaken purely on the feet, each treatment covers the whole of the body, thereby treating the whole person and not just the symptoms. It aims to calm the mind, increase blood circulation, stimulate the immune system, release endorphins – the body’s own painkillers, remove energy blockages, release tension and encourage toxins to be expelled, all to create the right conditions for a return to optimum health. Many G.P.s, hospitals and hospices recognise that Reflexology works because it has helped so many people to overcome physical, mental and emotional problems. It is now a well respected and established therapy and is growing in popularity all the time. A series of regular treatments may be necessary to treat a particular problem, since it tends to have a cumulative effect, with most people becoming more attuned after a few sessions. It is also excellent as a preventative measure, with maybe a regular monthly treatment once the initial problem has been alleviated. Reflexology is very comforting and enjoyable for most people, and can be used as a pampering treatment since it is a gentle therapy that will not cause harm.
